Independent Contracted Vehicle Inspector Opportunities
Mobile on-site inspection assignments for passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks.
DNS Engineering Limited Company provides mobile, on-site inspection services for passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks. We are building a network of experienced independent contracted inspectors who can assist with field-based inspection assignments as demand becomes available.
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity. It is not full-time or part-time employment. Inspection assignments are offered as available and are not guaranteed.
About the Work
DNS Engineering inspection assignments are focused on factual field documentation and objective data capture. Inspectors may be assigned to document vehicle condition, perform basic functional checks, capture required photos and videos, collect scan data, complete inspection forms, and upload inspection media.
Assignments may involve passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, fleet vehicles, pre-purchase inspection support, mechanical condition observations, or third-party inspection needs.
The work is mobile and on-site. Inspections may take place at dealerships, repair facilities, residences, fleet locations, storage yards, or other vehicle locations depending on the assignment.

Assignments may vary by location, client demand, season, inspector availability, and business needs.
Contracted inspectors may accept or decline assignments based on their availability, service area, and capability. Once an assignment is accepted, the inspector is expected to complete the inspection professionally and submit all required documentation.
What Inspectors Do
Contracted inspectors are responsible for accurate and complete field documentation. Depending on the assignment, this may include:
Photos of the vehicle exterior, interior, engine bay, underbody, labels, tires, fluids, and visible conditions
Video documentation of vehicle operation, functional features, abnormal conditions, or inspection limitations
Diagnostic scan data when required
Completed inspection forms
Written field notes
Passenger-seat observation during a road test when specifically authorized and applicable to the assignment
Clear upload of all required inspection media and documentation
The main responsibility is to document what is observed clearly, factually, and professionally.
What Inspectors Are Not Expected To Do
Inspectors are not expected to write final customer reports unless specifically directed by DNS Engineering.
Inspectors are not expected to sell repairs, approve repairs, authorize claims, provide purchase advice, or make unsupported diagnostic conclusions.
Inspectors are not expected to drive customer, seller, dealer, fleet, or repair-facility vehicles. When road-test observation is part of an assignment, the inspector’s role is limited to passenger-seat observation and factual documentation while the vehicle is operated by an authorized driver.
The inspector’s role is to document observable vehicle condition and submit the required field data. Final report preparation, customer-facing summaries, and report formatting are handled separately unless otherwise specified.
Who May Be a Good Fit
This opportunity may be a good fit for experienced automotive or mechanical professionals who are comfortable working independently in the field.
Relevant backgrounds may include:
Automotive repair
Independent shop experience
Fleet maintenance
Military vehicle maintenance
Aviation maintenance
Heavy equipment maintenance
Field service work
Vehicle inspection or appraisal work
Broad, hands-on experience across different makes and models is especially valuable. We are looking for people with practical mechanical awareness, strong observation skills, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, and individuals with mechanical, fleet, aviation maintenance, heavy equipment, or field-service experience are encouraged to submit an interest form.
Basic Requirements
Contracted inspectors should have:
Reliable transportation
A smartphone capable of taking clear photos and videos
Comfort with uploading photos, videos, and documents
Basic vehicle inspection tools
Lighting suitable for inspection work
Access to an OBD-II scan tool or willingness to obtain one
Professional communication
Daytime availability for occasional assignments
Ability to follow structured inspection instructions
Ability to document conditions factually without speculation

DNS Engineering Limited Company is currently focused on building and supporting inspection coverage in Utah, with primary near-term emphasis on northern Utah and surrounding areas.
At the same time, we are interested in connecting with qualified independent inspectors in other regions as we continue to expand our contractor network and service capacity.
